KBC TourDeAmerica

In the summer of 2007 a few friends mentioned the idea of a bicycle trip across America. I thought it would be a great adventure but never actually thought it would come to pass. I had always had a desire to ride a bike some great distance with a bunch of friends and camp along the way. Well that idea was tucked into the back of my mind and almost forgotten until a few of the students at Kauai Bible College mentioned the same idea during the spring 2009 semester. I realized that I still had a strong desire to make this epic trip! We never got any farther then just talking about the trip.

Summer 2009 brought a good amount of down time and a lot of time to just think and seek the Lord on things. The idea of this trip kept popping into my head but now the Lord was changing my mindset on the trip. Missions were something I suddenly wanted to incorporate into the expedition. I couldn’t get this idea out of my head.

Later I came into a concept that relates to finding the will of God. This is kind of how it went. God gives us desires and passions and wants us to grow in those areas. He also gives us gifts that should be used for his glory and to further his kingdom. I have a desire to use those gifts and passions for His glory. I just didn’t know how to find God’s will on how He would like me to use those gifts and passions. I realized that I had spent way too much time waiting on God to move and show me his will. How much did I miss out on while waiting? I feel as though I missed out on a lot! So I started changing my perspective on finding the will of God for my life and in simple terms it can be summarized in this phrase. “ Just do something” I believe that God will allow us to try things out and if it is not what he wants us to do he will close the door and you will have a lack of peace in what u are trying.

I applied this concept to the idea of a bike trip across America. Why not try it and move forward on it and see what the Lord will do with it. Well, I did just that and the things that have happened have shown me that the Lord is in this and is moving in amazing ways. I wish I had time to tell you of all the things He has been doing but I would be here typing to you for a long time! In the end there is no doubt at all in my mind and heart that the lord is in this and is actually pushing us forward. He has provided some financial support, my road bike for the trip, a road bike for the first committed rider, the support of Calvary Chapel Kauai, the support of Kauai Bible College, a rout we will travel, and many other things! So we are setting out on this great adventure in the name of Jesus!!

Our mission on this trip is to take the command of the Lord. Matthew 28:19 (19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations). We will be presenting tools to use, new ideas and testimonies of how our lives have been changed by this command. Personal discipleship seems to be something that is somewhat overlooked in our churches today. Our goal is to instill a discipleship excitement in people and in the churches and schools they are a part of. We want to encourage people to make disciples and to come along side friends and family. We also desire to encourage people in developing a stronger personal relationship with our savior Jesus Christ.

What's So Special About Bible College

In our new internet age young adults have access to amazing teaching. Whether you go on iTunes U, sermondindex.net or some other online school, you can find some of the most amazing teaching every produced. And most of it is free. Some would think that this would make Bible College mission obsolete and useless.

But actually this free content highlights the real purpose of the Bible College experience. Here is why...

Bible College is not just about good content; Bible classes, theology classes, ministry classes. Bible College is about the context of learning. The location, the campus dynamic, the staff, the mentors, the church are all crucial in the students spiritual growth. For example think back to a time in your life when you experienced an explosion of growth spiritually. Did that growth come from mere sermons or from that message being received in the context of life? Most of you would say that you grew in Christ as you learned the Word in the context of real life. Hopefully many of you have had key Christian friends that acted as mentors or spiritual coaches.

So the purpose of Bible College is not to get better content. If that is what you are looking for then stay home and google "free Christian college". I am sure you will find something to listen to.

But Bible College, especially Kauai Bible College, is focused in on the context of spiritual formation. We believe that good teaching needs to be accompanied with a spiritual growth environment. That environment must include mentoring relationships, opportunities to practice Christian truths in the church and community, relationships with piers, and a physical location that puts all these pieces in close proximity. Actually there are other components to the Bible College environment, but those are the basics.

The result of living at the Bible College for 16 weeks, taking classes, serving in the church, and relating to other believers is rapid spiritual growth. There is a transformation that takes place in the students life. Students are putting away bad habits, and developing spiritual disciplines. We have designed a program that fosters intense spiritual growth in 16 week semesters.

So Bible College is special. Not because it has incredible teaching, but because it provides a spiritual environment for transformation. We would strongly encourage anyone who can to take a semester at Bible College and pray about doing all four semesters. God can use this experience in your life in incredible ways.

Darwin Was Wrong Conference!!!

November 20-21st

It can be argued that Charles Darwin advanced the cause of atheism and weakened the faith of countless believers more than anyone in history. As you know, 2009 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of his book, Origin of Species. While Universities and the popular media are celebrating The Year of Darwin, promoting his anti-biblical worldview, we think it is time to let the world know – Darwin was wrong!

Calvary Chapel Kauai will be rebroadcasting a Creation Science Seminar on November 20-21st. This seminar will air live at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa on November 13-14 and can be viewed here. CC Kauai will be rebroadcasting the video feed starting Friday night, November 20th at 6:30 PM and will end at 9:00 PM. The seminary will resume on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM and run till 3:30 in the afternoon. A $5 lunch will be provided by the Bible College.

This DVD seminar will include presenters from all over the science community. Topics will include: geology, microbiology, sociology. Here is a list of the speakers.

John Baumgardner, Ph.D. in Geophysics, will introduce the conference, revealing that science is now debunking every aspect of Darwin’s hypothesis.

E. Thomas McMullen, Ph.D. in History and the Philosophy of Science, will show that Darwin used creative speculation and unbounded extrapolation in place of the scientific method, and that his approach was the antithesis of good science.

Steve Austin, Ph.D. in Geology, will show that Darwin was profoundly wrong about the origin of the Santa Cruz River Valley in Patagonia, and about the geologic record in general. Darwin’s speculations of slow and gradual biological change were based on the false idea of slow and gradual geologic change.

Marcus Ross, Ph.D. in Paleontology, will point out that while Darwin admitted the fossil record in his day contradicted his theory, he held out hope that future discoveries would come to his rescue. Now, 150 years later, the problem of missing intermediates is even more glaring.

Robert Carter, Ph.D. in Marine Biology, will speak on Darwin’s naïve belief that life is fundamentally simple. Since Darwin’s day, science has revealed life to be so staggeringly complex as to render Darwin’s foundational speculations clearly untenable.

John Sanford, Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and in Plant Genetics, will show that Darwin was wrong about natural selection. Darwin proposed that heritable variation and natural selection account for all biological complexity. But he knew nothing of genetics, of mutations, or, most crucially, of the extreme limitations of natural selection.

Jerry Bergman, Ph.D. in Human Biology, will show that Darwin was wrong about his proposed “Tree of Life” – a diagram purporting to show how all life forms diverged over eons of time from a primordial common ancestor. DNA studies are not supporting well-defined lines of descent among major groups of ancestors as Darwin imagined. The confused and scrambled genomic patterns instead imply a tangled bush. In other words, genetic evidence for common ancestry is missing!

Dr. Charles Ware, President of Crossroads Bible College, will show that Darwin regarded “races” other than his own as inferior and destined for extinction. But DNA studies reveal genetic differences between major people groups are only superficial, smaller than variations within these groups. Genetically, we are one race – the human race.

Robert Carter, Ph.D. in Marine Biology, will return to discuss Darwin’s speculation that humans descended from ape-like ancestors. Contrary to Darwin’s speculations, modern genetic evidence points to a “Mitochondrial Eve” and a “Y-Chromosome Adam” only thousands of years ago, and also to a very recent divergence of the world’s major people groups out of the Middle East.
