In the summer of 2007 a few friends mentioned the idea of a bicycle trip across America. I thought it would be a great adventure but never actually thought it would come to pass. I had always had a desire to ride a bike some great distance with a bunch of friends and camp along the way. Well that idea was tucked into the back of my mind and almost forgotten until a few of the students at Kauai Bible College mentioned the same idea during the spring 2009 semester. I realized that I still had a strong desire to make this epic trip! We never got any farther then just talking about the trip.
Summer 2009 brought a good amount of down time and a lot of time to just think and seek the Lord on things. The idea of this trip kept popping into my head but now the Lord was changing my mindset on the trip. Missions were something I suddenly wanted to incorporate into the expedition. I couldn’t get this idea out of my head.
Later I came into a concept that relates to finding the will of God. This is kind of how it went. God gives us desires and passions and wants us to grow in those areas. He also gives us gifts that should be used for his glory and to further his kingdom. I have a desire to use those gifts and passions for His glory. I just didn’t know how to find God’s will on how He would like me to use those gifts and passions. I realized that I had spent way too much time waiting on God to move and show me his will. How much did I miss out on while waiting? I feel as though I missed out on a lot! So I started changing my perspective on finding the will of God for my life and in simple terms it can be summarized in this phrase. “ Just do something” I believe that God will allow us to try things out and if it is not what he wants us to do he will close the door and you will have a lack of peace in what u are trying.
I applied this concept to the idea of a bike trip across America. Why not try it and move forward on it and see what the Lord will do with it. Well, I did just that and the things that have happened have shown me that the Lord is in this and is moving in amazing ways. I wish I had time to tell you of all the things He has been doing but I would be here typing to you for a long time! In the end there is no doubt at all in my mind and heart that the lord is in this and is actually pushing us forward. He has provided some financial support, my road bike for the trip, a road bike for the first committed rider, the support of Calvary Chapel Kauai, the support of Kauai Bible College, a rout we will travel, and many other things! So we are setting out on this great adventure in the name of Jesus!!
Our mission on this trip is to take the command of the Lord. Matthew 28:19 (19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations). We will be presenting tools to use, new ideas and testimonies of how our lives have been changed by this command. Personal discipleship seems to be something that is somewhat overlooked in our churches today. Our goal is to instill a discipleship excitement in people and in the churches and schools they are a part of. We want to encourage people to make disciples and to come along side friends and family. We also desire to encourage people in developing a stronger personal relationship with our savior Jesus Christ.
